All about resume writers
With so much competition for sought-out jobs in the current market, people are looking for ways to stand out. Resume writing used to be personal, something you did on your own, but people are finding benefits in outsourcing this task. Giving the task to career coaches or expert resume writing can leverage your resume. Companies that don't know you only have your resume to look at to determine if you're a good fit for the position, keeping in mind that recruiters only spend 5-7 seconds to scan a resume.
Here are some of the skills you need to be a resume writing expert:
- No need for a college degree to be a resume writing expert, although degrees in English, Journalism, Business & Communication are preferred
- Good writer: impeccable English, good grammar, persuasive writing skills
- Experience in recruiting or HR is advantageous
Tip: Have a niche. While many resume writers write general resumes, it could help to specialize in a niche, such as writing only resumes for accounting, legal, engineering, IT, medical field, etc (depending on your experience). There are some terms that are specific to each industry. Being familiar with those terms will give you an edge.
