About this Gig
I'll beta-read your short, mid-range, or novel-length fiction, including in-line story comments and proofreading, to help you move faster toward traditional or self-publishing!
Hundreds of honest and polite in-line comments offer brief reader reactions, lengthier observations, and actionable suggestions within your manuscript, averaging 2 to 5 comments per page (often more).
Dozens of in-line edits focus on spelling, grammar, and style. I read each word carefully and conscientiously.
The multi-page Reader Report provides thoughtful, thorough notes on "What Works," "What to Work On," and responses to your initial comments and questions. I'll consider:
- Pace
- Plot & story
- Point of view
- Character arcs
- Potential points of confusion
- Narrative structure
- World-building
- Dialogue
- ...and more
Contact me for a Custom Offer if your piece falls mid-range between word counts.

FAQ
My piece is mid-range between the word counts in your packages. Will you charge me the full amount? And, do you read more than 80k?
If your piece is mid-range between the packages or above 80k, send me a message with the exact word count, and I'll reply ASAP with a Custom Offer that will save you money.
What type of file do you need?
I prefer a Word document (.doc or .docx) so that I can turn on "track changes," and you can easily follow my comments and suggestions. I can work with a PDF if needed, but this limits my ability for proofreading and stylistic edits. I do not work with Google Docs or any other form of cloud-sharing.
Do you need a "trigger warning" if my piece features violence, profanity, etc.?
Not at all, although if you'd like to give me a heads-up, that's fine.
If I make a big change to my piece while you're reviewing it, can I send you an updated copy?
No. I prefer to work with the piece you sent me. After I return your piece, you can always rework it and then resubmit it to me as a new order.
If I purchase a second beta read for an updated version of the same piece, will you read it?
Of course! I know works in progress will likely go through many drafts, so whether it's a week later or a year later, you're welcome to purchase a second round of reading. I'm happy to be your fresh pair of eyes!
What can I expect from the delivery?
You'll receive a copy of your manuscript with easily identifiable in-line edits and comments and a Reader Report. The Reader Report typically consists of about 3 to 5 pages for 39,000 words or less and about 5 to 7+ pages for 40,000 words or more.
Do you speed-read? Do you use AI?
I do NOT speed-read. I read each word carefully and conscientiously. I also do NOT use AI. I use Grammarly to assist me with proofreading and in cases where I want to double-check one of my suggestions for your manuscript. Generally, though, I do all the work.
What's your process? How much time will you spend with my manuscript?
I work 2 to 6 hours daily, Monday through Friday, and often on weekends, with reduced hours in summer. I read, edit, and comment on 2,500 to 3,500 words per hour. After reading, I spend 2 to 5 hours reviewing my comments and preparing the Reader Report. I usually work on one project at a time.
Will you keep me apprised of your progress?
Absolutely! I typically check in every two to four days with an update on your project (for example, "Hello! I'm on page 100 of 250 pages. I'm on track to deliver this order on time or early").
What if I have questions based on your feedback?
After I deliver your order and you have had a chance to review my comments, you can contact me again. I'll set up a "Custom Offer" for a writer-directed follow-up: you can provide me with a list of questions to answer via Word doc, or we can video chat via Fiverr's Zoom platform.

Chris received too many orders at once and need more time on my reader and inline comments. I think he had only done so one or two times. All the other times he had delivered ahead of schedule. It was totally worth the wait as the reader report...

Almost too positive. I know there were boring or unneeded parts in my story but they wern't mentioned. "Yikes" and "interesting" are not helpful comments other than showing me you read it. I don't like Fiverr at all. The use of the communications...

This is my second time working with Chris, and I found him to be professional and laser focused when it came to beta reading my novel. His extensive comments were critical but kind, showing me where I could improve and praising what I did right....
